To change ownership of a property title you must complete a title transfer. A number of steps are involved and these are impacted by the type of current ownership of the property, how you are changing the ownership and whether the property has a mortgage noted on the title.
Words from Our Clients
“Hi Chelsie,
Thank you for everything. For being so available whenever I rang to ask questions, it was so good to work with someone as efficient as you are. Again thank you,”
Wendy Hone & Rodger Nottage
“Renee provided outstanding service, i could not recommend her enough. All my phone calls, emails and enquires were answered and replied to straight away. As a first home buyer i have no idea what i was doing, Renee has helped me with many questions that i’m sure are not in her job description.
A family friend recommended Sargeants Conveyancing when my parents purchased their first house, and they too recommended that i use your company for my first house. I will also continue to refer Sargeants Conveyancing to all my friends and family.”
Thanks, Kelly White
“Just a short note to thank Vanessa and the team at Sargeants Cowes for all the work and assistance with the efficient settlement on our property in Somerville.
We have used the services of Sargeants Cowes on a number of occasions in the past and will continue to do so in the future if we have any more transactions in Victoria.”
Many thanks again, John &Hazel Crewdson
Some Important Facts About Title Transfers
People change the ownership of their title for a number of reasons. It can be as a gift to their spouse or due to a change in their circumstance. The type of transfer will determine the conveyancing work needed.
Some common examples are:
CHANGES TO NAMES - UPDATING, ADDING OR REMOVING
This occurs when someone may have changed their name through marriage or divorce and needs to update the title to their current name.
The title holder has now married and wishes to add their spouse to the title.
One of the title holders has passed away and their name needs to be removed from the title.
Change IN ownership structure
The ownership structure on the title may no longer be relevant to the company or individuals who own the property eg they wish the property ownership to be transferred to a family trust.
Family related
The property owner passes away and bequeaths the property thus requiring a change in the ownership.
CIRCUMSTANCES HAVE CHANGED
Changes in personal and financial circumstances can mean the need for a change in the property title. Perhaps the property was bought jointly and now one partner wishes to buy the other out or a divorce requires the title to be updated.
